Before you appoint a marine surveyor
What information is needed for a UAE marine survey quote?
Provide the emirate, exact marina or yard, vessel dimensions, construction, purpose and date. Include the facility contact, access permissions, lift, wash, sea trial and any insurer, lender or authority requirement.
Can a surveyor enter any UAE marina or shipyard?
Not automatically. Controlled facilities may require identification, a gate pass, contractor approval, agent coordination or proof of insurance. The vessel owner or yard should confirm access before attendance.
Can a yacht be surveyed during the hottest months?
Potentially, but heat can affect working hours, surface temperatures, machinery testing and safe access. Agree the inspection sequence and any limitations with the surveyor and yard.
Is a private yacht survey the same as an official inspection?
No. A buyer’s or insurer’s survey is distinct from licensing, registration, class or statutory work. Dubai and federal authorities use specific approval routes for certain inspection activities, so confirm the accepting authority first.
Are lift, travel and specialist testing included?
Only when expressly included. Haul-out, wash, access passes, travel, sea trial, thermography, ultrasound, engine diagnostics and oil analysis can be separate arrangements.
Who appoints the marine surveyor?
The client appoints the independent surveyor directly and agrees scope, fee, limitations and terms. UAE Marine Survey provides information and introductions only.
